"Happenings in the Neighborhood - Upcoming events and Centennial celebrations at the House of 7 Gables"

The House of 7 Gables is a major part of the historic Derby Street neighborhood and have been such gracious hosts to our association; providing us wonderful hospitality over the years. Located at 115 Derby Street, locals and visitors alike have discovered this complex of early houses, including Nathaniel Hawthorne's birthplace, the seven-gabled house of novel fame and its charming seaside gardens overlooking Salem Harbor.

What is the Perfect Pick-Up?

What is the Perfect Pick-Up? It's all in the separation of recyclable items. Paper must be placed in a separate container (no plastic bags) while co-mingled recycling (plastic, glass, aluminum) must be placed in another container."   Each week one randomly selected household will win $50 just by following these simple rules.

  • Register, either on-line under Trash/Recycling: the Perfect Pick-Up; or by filling out a form available at Council on Aging or City Hall.  By registering, you are agreeing to take the SalemRecycles pledge for appropriate recycling practices.
  • Each Friday a potential winner will be drawn on a random basis.  The recycling of the potential awardee will be checked for conformance with the appropriate practices; and if the household conforms they will be awarded a $50 check.
  • Each household is eligible to win one prize annually.
The contest will continue through May 2010.  To learn more about the Perfect Pick-Up and how you can register to win, please contact the Engineering Department at 978-619-5679.

If anyone would like a member of SalemRecycles to attend one of your neighborhood meetings to provide more information about the contest, or discuss recycling in general please let me know.
