What do I do with my old computer monitor or television?

In April 2000, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts adopted a first in the nation approach to reuse and recycle discarded computer monitors and televisions. Cathode ray tubes (CRT's), the leaded glass picture tubes found in monitors and televisions, are now banned from disposal in Massachusetts landfills and waste combustors due to their high lead content. For this reason, many solid waste haulers have ceased collection of CRT devices from households.

Usually, the City of Salem will take these items at the hazardous waste collection day. But, with the recent drastic budget cuts there has been no confirmation that this event will take place.

In the meantime we would like to offer some options for residents that would like to or need to have these items removed from their property

CONTACT A NEARBY T.V. REPAIR SHOP. ELECTRONICS RETAILER ORAPPLIANCE REMOVAL COMPANY TO SEE IF THEY ACCEPT THESE ITEMS.

Examples: BP Removals (781) 593 0343 will pick up these items for $15 apiece.
A.C.B (Haverhill) (978) 521 6511 price depends on size, drop off in Haverhill.

CONSIDER DONATING YOUR USABLE COMPUTER PARTS AND EQUIPMENT

Examples: Goodwill Industries, Salvation Army, or try web sites such as http://www.ncecp.com/ or http://www.kidsource.com/

Do not place televisions or monitors out on the curb with your
regular household trash.
